What to Expect on Installation Day: The Direct Custom Flooring Standard - Removing the Stress of Renovation

The most common complaint in the flooring industry involves "no-show" contractors or unvetted laborers who treat a client's home like a construction site rather than a living space. At Direct Custom Flooring, we eliminate that anxiety by employing our own team. We never use subcontractors. Every person who enters your home is a background-checked employee who is personally invested in the success of our local business. When you know what to expect, the process becomes an exciting transformation rather than a stressful ordeal.

Phase 1: Preparation and Respect

Our installation day begins with site protection. We don't just start banging hammers; we treat your home with the utmost respect.

  • Furniture Handling: We move heavy furniture with professional sliders and care.

  • Dust Containment: We set up barriers to protect your kitchen, electronics, and other living areas from the inevitable dust of removal.

  • Old Floor Removal: We responsibly remove and haul away your old carpet or tile, leaving a clean slate for the new installation.

Phase 2: Subfloor Remediation

A floor is only as good as what's underneath it. Most Lake County homes have minor slab imperfections that can cause "bouncy" or "clicking" floors later on.

  • Grinding and Filling: We use industrial grinders to level high spots in your concrete and high-strength leveling compounds to fill low spots.

  • Moisture Barriers: As discussed in our previous guides, we apply the appropriate vapor barrier to protect your investment from rising dampness.

Phase 3: Precision Installation

Whether you've chosen glue-down engineered wood or floating laminate, our team follows manufacturer-specific guidelines to ensure your warranty remains valid. We pay close attention to the "stagger" of the planks, providing a natural, aesthetically balanced pattern that avoids "H-joints" or repetitive patterns. We also ensure proper expansion gaps are left at every wall to account for Florida's humidity.

Phase 4: The Clean-Up and Walkthrough

Because our installers are employees with a vested interest in our success, they take the time to clean up every single day. We sweep, vacuum, and organize our tools so your home remains livable throughout the project. Once the final transition strip is in place and the baseboards are reinstalled, we perform a final walkthrough with you. We'll explain how to properly clean your specific finish and ensure every detail meets your expectations. For more on our process, see What to Expect When Replacing Flooring in Your Home

Why the Direct Custom Difference Matters

Chris Wellhauser began his career in the snow of Buffalo, New York, where he learned the value of a hard day's work and precision installation. He brought those values to Florida in 1998, and they remain the backbone of our company today. We want you to love the process as much as the result.
